book dog\, of course. Young readers can come to Tivoli Free Library at 4 p.m.
Friday\, July 11 and again on July 25 to read their favorite stories to Oreo the
book dog. Oreo\, joined by her human\, Penny\, is a trained therapy dog and a very
good listener.
This activity is open to children who are able to read. Reading
aloud helps develop confidence and vocabulary as well as reading skills.

book sale slated for July

-- Make space on your shelves for the great finds at the Tivoli Free Library 2008
Summer Book Sale. As in former years\, the book sale will begin on Tivoli Yard
Sale Day\, when the village empties its closets and attics of treasures for the
public's perusal.
Tivoli Free Library is
currently accepting donation of gently used books until July 18 – no textbooks\,
encyclopedias\, Reader's Digest condensed books or heavily soiled or damaged
tomes\, please. Return to the library from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday\, July
26\, and Sunday\, July 27 to restock with previously read treasures. The sale
will continue at 2 to 8 p.m. Monday\, July 28\, and from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

festival pulls into harbor at the New London Waterfront Park on
Saturday\, July 26\, from 10am \;to 6 pm. \;As always\, children’s authors and
illustrators are the featured attraction amongst a host of interactive
children’s games\, balloon artists\, entertainment and many boats. This
year’s event will also feature the return of working tugboats on City
Pier\, and festival-goers can also enjoy tours of Project Oceanology’s Envirolab and the Mystic Whaler tall ship. And new this year - \;children will be able to climb aboard and explore the historic Tug\, Cornell\, out of New York\, which was built in 1949.

Nature Museum Announces Free

Parents and their
families can explore Discovery Quest Trails Free-of-Charge on
Saturday\, July 26 and
Sunday\, July 27

To introduce parents and their families to the
Hudson
Highlands Nature Museum’s new Discovery Quest trails\, the
Museum is inviting parents and their families to enjoy a complimentary Discovery
Quest admission\, for up to four people\, and one free Quest Guidebook per family
on Saturday\, July 26 and Sunday\, July
27. The trails\, located at the Museum’s Outdoor Discovery Center\, Route 9W\, Cornwall\, are fun for all ages and abilities.
They provide a unique\, interactive way for people to spend time outdoors
learning about the environment.
\;
Quest hikes range from
an easy\, stroller-friendly trail to a more vigorous hike of nearly two miles –
and all trails are well-marked. There’s something for hikers of all abilities.
The trails also cover a variety of habitats\, from wetlands to meadows to forest\,
and provide wonderful opportunities to observe wildlife. Plus\, there’s a great
picnic area to make a full day out of the adventure.

Parents should bring their families to the Discovery
Quest Visitor’s Center on Saturday\, July 26 and Sunday\, July 27 between 10am and
4pm. Quest Guidebooks\, which can easily be shared\, are free (one per family) at
the Visitor’s Center.

The Trolley Museum of New York invites
those interested in participating in the 14th Annual Artists’
Soapbox Derby to attend a hands-on workshop on how to design and build
a derby car. \; The Soapbox Derby will be held on Sunday\, August
17\, 2008 at 1PM on lower Broadway in Kingston\, NY. \;
The Workshop Series will be held in the
Trolley Museum Display and Restoration Shop at 89 East Strand. \;
The workshops are free\, but you must make a reservation to attend one
of the workshops. \; The dates of the workshops are\: July 26th\,
August 2nd\, 9th &\; 16th\, all beginning
at 1PM. \; Some tools and materials will be available\, but workshop
participants are encouraged to bring their own materials and tools. \;
All manner of designs are eligible. \;
The Artists’ Soapbox Derby is a race where speed is not the objective\;
rather creativity in design and locomotion will be rewarded in many
categories of prizes. \; George and Nancy Donskoj\, of Donskoj &\;
