bcep_int.jpgThe Bard Center for Environmental Policy was created in 1999 to promote education, research, and public service on critical issues pertaining to the natural and built environments. Its primary goal is to improve environmental policies by facilitating the use of the best available scientific knowledge in the policy-making process at the local, regional, national, and international levels. BCEP's premise is that to address environmental problems and pursue sustainable use of natural resources, scientists, economists, lawyers, ethicists, and policy makers must understand one another's perspectives and values, and communicate effectively with the general public.

The second annual GREEN RIDE will be October 11-13, from NYC to the Catskills and back, to support Sustainable Hudson Valley and the Black Rock Forest Consortium.

The bicycle ride began two years ago to save an outdoor environmental science program for low-income city kids. Last year it grew to support BRF's environmental program and this year we've added Kingston-based SHV, which is making real headway teaching regional governments and businesses how to convert to sustainable practices.

For info, email Melissa Everett, the director of SHV, at
