The project will demonstrate how emerging camera technology can reduce production costs, expand content creation opportunities, and help local radio stations and independent musicians reach new audiences.
Developed by broadcast engineer and WKZE co-owner Dr. Andy Gladding, SignalRiot is a mobile production platform designed to capture, broadcast, stream, and archive live musical performances and community events. The system combines professional broadcast engineering practices with accessible production technology, allowing a small crew to produce sophisticated multicamera programming from virtually any location.
OBSBOT’s automated camera tracking, remote operation, and network-based video capabilities are being incorporated into the SignalRiot production workflow, reducing the need for additional camera operators while expanding the platform’s video production capabilities.
“One of the challenges facing independent broadcasters and musicians has always been the cost of producing and distributing professional content,” said Gladding. “Our work with SignalRiot is demonstrating that those barriers can be substantially reduced. OBSBOT technology allows us to produce multicamera concert programming with a fraction of the personnel and infrastructure traditionally required. That changes the economics of local content production.”
“At OBSBOT, our vision is to help creators bring their ideas to life without being held back by complex workflows or limited resources,” said Liu Bo, CEO of OBSBOT. “We’re very happy to be part of this initiative to provide camera equipment to support WKZE’s exploration of live music production.”
Sharing Live Music and Production Experiences
Through SignalRiot, WKZE plans to share concert recordings and production experiences, with opportunities to explore related video content and social media promotion.
The content will focus on participating musicians and the role of OBSBOT cameras within the broader production workflow. Behind-the-scenes material and technical demonstrations may offer additional perspectives on the production process, with opportunities for selected content to be shared more widely, subject to agreement with the relevant parties.
These efforts aim to support greater visibility for musicians and content creators while offering performers, videographers, concert promoters, and live production companies insight into how OBSBOT cameras are used in live music production.
“This collaboration is about much more than demonstrating camera technology,” said Kathleen Gladding, President of AK22 Digital Media and co-owner of WKZE. “It’s about making professional content creation accessible to independent musicians, producers, and small media organizations that may not have the resources for conventional production. By combining emerging technology with the reach of traditional radio and digital platforms, we can help artists expand their audiences, create new promotional opportunities, and give independent broadcasters practical ways to strengthen their connection to the communities they serve.”
Bringing Broadcast Technology to New Markets
Throughout the campaign, WKZE and SignalRiot will document production workflows, share field experience, and release examples of OBSBOT technology operating in live production environments.
The collaboration will also provide opportunities for technical case studies and industry coverage addressing the changing economics of remote broadcasting, concert production, and digital content creation.
By combining OBSBOT’s camera technology with SignalRiot’s mobile production capabilities and WKZE’s commitment to independent music, the initiative will demonstrate a practical model for creating and distributing locally produced media content.
